La falsificación de arte es la creación y venta de obras que se atribuyen falsamente a un artista famoso, pero que en realidad fueron hechas por otra persona.
Esto significa que el cliente ha sido engañado no sólo con el cuadro, sino con toda la documentación que lo respalda.
Aunque este es un mercado lucrativo que está al alza, las técnicas modernas de datación y análisis evitan muchas estafas.
Hoffman Elemér, conocido como Elmyr de Hory, fue un famoso pintor y falsificador húngaro que llegó a vender más de mil falsificaciones. Siempre decía que los museos estaban llenos de obras que no eran auténticas.
Posiblemente, fue uno de los pintores más geniales que han existido, ya que sabía recoger la esencia de todos los grandes maestros.
Como dato curioso es el hecho de que él nunca firmaba las obras que realizaba y se le atribuían las firmas a su marchante, aunque es posible que eso quede en lo más recondito y oculto de su vida.
Tipología de falsificadores

Existen diferentes tipos de falsificadores, pero normalmente tres de ellos son los más frecuentes.
1.- La persona que realmente crea la obra de arte fraudulenta.
2.- La persona que descubre una obra de arte e intenta hacerla pasar por algo que no es, para aumentar su valor.
3.- La persona que descubre que una obra es falsa, pero quiere conseguir dinero y la vende como original.
Artistas más falsificados
Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso, Monet, Paul Klee, Matisse, Renoir, Chagall, Miró, Giacometti, Braque o Le Corbusier son algunos de los más deseados por los amantes del arte y, también, por los falsificadores que, sabiendo el interés que las obras de estos autores han despertado en los coleccionistas, ven en ellos presas fáciles de convencer.
Por eso, a la hora de comprar estas obras de pintores o escultores famosos, es importante pedir toda la documentación del origen de las obras, si son cuadros fotos de la parte posterior también, trazabilidad de la obra, catálogos en donde aparece, peritaje de autenticidad por la persona autorizada a darla, así como otras pruebas que confirmen que no es una falsificación.
